Rosabrook Margaret River Wines

2009 Single Vineyard Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Makers Notes

The colour is deep purple, with a red core and dark edge. There are aromas of mocha and dark fruits, with a hint of dusty, vanillin oak, complex and classical. A hint of sawdust complexity reveals some barrel ferment. The palate is ripe with initial spice flavours leading to a rich and generous mouth filling middle palate. The lingering fine tannin finish is deep and persistent, in the classical Margaret River style.

Vintage Notes

After a cool wet spring/early onset of summer, the 2009 vintage in Margaret River was relatively free of weather issues, rain events and temperature extremes. There were cool weeks where all varieties slowed significantly and there was some fear of a repeat of 2006, however, a remarkable period of fine warm weather during late March and early April saw all areas bring fruit to good maturities. Winemakers in the region are very happy with the outcome and an altogether terrific red vintage.

Vineyard Notes

Drawn from our best sites and our best patches, consisting of fine gravel over ironstone and deeper schist from Northern Margaret River.

Vinification Notes

Picked at optimum ripeness, the fruit was put to open top steel fermenters; hand plunged daily and fermented with natural yeasts. After nine days, the rough wine was pressed off skins and 50% run to French oak barriques, with the balance completing fermentation in steel. The wine was matured then racked from oak to final blend, undergoing further bottle maturation prior to release.
