2009 Cabernet Merlot
Winemaker's Notes
Deep purple red with a dark cherry core leads to an aroma of dark cherry and mocha fruits layered over fine vanillin oak. The palate is ripe and generous, yet retains the classical aspects of Margaret River with savoury flavours of plum and spice leading to a generous mouth filling middle palate with fine grained tannins to finish.
Vintage Notes
After a cool wet spring/early onset of summer, the 2009 vintage in Margaret River was relatively free of weather issues, rain events and temperature extremes. There were cool weeks where all varieties slowed significantly and there was some fear of a repeat of 2006, however, a remarkable period of fine warm weather during late March and early April saw all areas bring fruit to good maturities. Winemakers in the region are very happy with the outcome and an altogether terrific red vintage
Vineyard Notes
Our vineyards are in northern Margaret River with soils of mostly fine clay loams over ironstone. All vines are vertically shoot positioned and run in north south aspect.
Vinification Notes
All grapes were harvested at optimum maturity and each parcel was fermented and assessed separately, selected for oak maturation and matured with a mixture of French and American oak for 12 months
