Wines
2009 Shiraz
Winemaker's Notes
Deep red purple, medium intensity. Lifted spice and white pepper over ripe blackberry fruits. A seam of vanillin oak sits in the background. Elegant and smooth, with assertive yet soft tannins over richly flavoured middle palate and a long spicy finish
Vintage Notes
After a cool wet spring/early onset of summer, the 2009 vintage in Margaret River was relatively free of weather issues, rain events and temperature extremes. There were cool weeks where all varieties slowed significantly and there was some fear of a repeat of 2006, however, a remarkable period of fine warm weather during late March and early April saw all areas bring fruit to good maturities. Winemakers in the region are very happy with the outcome and an altogether terrific red vintage.
Vineyard Notes
Our vineyards are in northern Margaret River with soils consisting of fine clay loams over ironstone and deeper schist from Northern Margaret River. All vines are vertically shoot positioned and run in north south aspect
Vinification Notes
All grapes were harvested at optimum maturity and each parcel was fermented and assessed separately, selected for oak maturation and matured with a mixture of French and American oak.
