2011 Cabernet Merlot
We have endeavoured to bring out the vibrancy of fruit that the vintage has delivered. There are clear and perfumed cabernet fruit aromas leading to a medium bodied wine with balanced fine and persistent varietal flavours.
The 2011 vintage was characterised by a dry winter and spring combined with warmer than average temperatures during the ripening season, leading to the earliest vintage on record, even surpassing 2007. Reds are highly coloured, juicy and really deliver. It may be a classic vintage, however, it is absolutely outside living experience, yet the signs are indeed promising. We are very happy indeed with the outcome with full flavoursome whites and fine vibrant and tannin ripe reds.
Our vineyards are in northern Margaret River with soils of mostly fine clay loams over ironstone. All vines are vertically shoot positioned and run in north south aspect.
We employed a small batch approach; multiple fruit parcels that would often only accommodate a single fermenter. The wine spent most of its life with various origins of French oak and then was assembled for final blending, fining and bottling.
