2013 Single Vineyard Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
A deep purple red colour leads to a complex bouquet, aromatic and lifted with a briar-like quality. The palate is tightly wound with great length of flavour, structured finish and fine natural grape tannins to resolve the finish.
A warm start to the vintage was moderated by later rains that cooled the region considerably and saw a vintage of fine and consistent quality fruit. Reds are rich and deep.
Drawn from our northern Margaret River vineyard, hand-picked from a lyre trellis, a rarity these days.
Lyre trellis and handpicked. Open fermenters plunged twice daily and irrigated in between times. Run off to oak at dryness and matured quietly for twelve months before further bottle maturation prior to release.
96 Points James Halliday Wine Companion 2017.
“Hand-picked, open-fermented; matured for 12 months in French oak (45% new). Margaret River continues to throw down the gauntlet to Coonawarra, seeking to make Australia’s best cabernets. This has all the autocratic cadences and flavours of pretenders to the Bordeaux throne, blackcurrant, cedar, earth and black olive flavours, with seamless, but persistent, tannins underpinning both the quality and length of the full-bodied palate.”
91 points, The West Australian Wine Guide by Ray Jordan
"Deeply intense and concentrated cabernet from this older vineyard site. Love the classically mineral and ironstone characters on the cabernet evident on the nose and palate. Tightly held with firm tannins and some quality oak. Deep blackcurrant fruit flavours with chocolaty infusion. Will benefit from extended cellaring."
