2009 Single Vineyard Estate Shiraz
The colour is deep plum with a dark centre and a purple edge. There are aromas of spice and blackcurrant, with a hint of vanillin oak, complex and classical. The palate is elegant with ripe flavours and delicate tannins. A fine assertive middle palate leads to a long persistent finish in classical Margaret River style.
After a cool wet spring/early onset of summer, the 2009 vintage in Margaret River was relatively free of weather issues, rain events and temperature extremes. There were cool weeks where all varieties slowed significantly and there was some fear of a repeat of 2006, however, a remarkable period of fine warm weather during late March and early April saw all areas bring fruit to good maturities. Winemakers in the region are very happy with the outcome and an altogether terrific red vintage.
Drawn from our best sites and our best patches, consisting of fine gravel over ironstone and deeper schist from Northern Margaret River.
Picked at optimum ripeness, the fruit was put to open top steel fermenters; hand plunged daily and fermented with natural yeasts. After seven days, the rough wine was pressed off skins and 50% run to new American oak barriques, with the balance completing fermentation in steel. The wine was matured then racked from oak to final blend, undergoing further bottle maturation prior to release.
